Iván Fresneda made his debut this Saturday (and as a starter, playing the full 90 minutes) for the Spain national team in the 3-1 win over the Czech Republic, a match corresponding to the 3rd round of Group A3 of the Nations League. A very special moment for the Sporting full-back, who fulfilled a childhood dream... but one that will not come cheap, at least for the coffers of the green and whites.
Why? The transfer from Valladolid to Sporting in 2023, for 9 million euros fixed, also included around 2M€ in add-ons, with part of that slice related to La Roja. Now, just his presence in his national team squad - called up to replace the injured Pedro Porro - led the Lions to pay an amount of 250 thousand euros... to which are now added another 250m€ for the fact that he was sent into the game by coach De La Fuente.
After several caps for the under-21s, Fresneda played his first game for the Spain senior team, after having stood out in recent seasons for Sporting. Recovered from a myalgia that kept him off the pitch at the end of 2025/26, the full-back regained his starting spot at the Lions, with 8 games and one assist this season.
